User Interfaces and Computer Literacy

I realize that AJAX is all the rage now, and that the basic principles of computer programming when accepting incoming data is to verify the data (and filter it, in case of a database layer). But, where do we stop, or where do we switch from ease of use to completely dumbing down the interface? Are we really dumbing down the interface, or are we reinventing the GUI?

About darn time...

Well, I finally broke down and got a new host since my old host went kaput due to payment issues on his own end (I believe him, and although he was kind enough to cancel my paypal subscription to his hosting, I technically had 3-4 more months of hosting with him that I had already paid for. I felt bad so I left it...). Now I'm with Monkey Wrench Hosting and so far I like it. I didn't entirely like their signup process, but it wasn't entirely their fault - the live chat ended up being really, really handy - and if I request it and/or need it, I can get SSH access. Although they don't yet support PHP5 (as cPanel doesn't support it), I can do most of my PHP5 tests on my development servers anyway.
