What do you do to get yourself over a hump? I develop web applications as a hobby when I'm not working and at home. But as with any application, there are portions that are much less desirable to work on than others that still need to be done (such as documentation). How can you get yourself over the hump when there's little to no incentive other than being able to continue on with the project? I'd rather go run...10 miles...and I usually only do 2 miles, so, yeah...

I can't seem to make myself do it, I keep procrastinating. There always seems to be something else just slightly more interesting that I "will only spend x minutes on and get right back to the project". Just looking for what you more experienced people do when you come to these things.

Delegate the distasteful task to an underling! ;-)

Ha! If that's an option, go for it. Otherwise, I guess you just have to get around to it. I tend to do the same thing but after a certain period of avoidance, I get a little embarrassed and end up tackling the thing in question.

Yeah, since it's just a hobby-type thing, and the woman doesn't know computers the underling thing is out the door. (Then again, I let her wear the pants, so...I shouldn't talk.) I just wish I could get to that embarrassment stage a bit quicker I suppose. So many things to learn and find interesting, there's always something else to take my attention (such as Photoshop or photography). Thanks for the input though! Hopefully this weekend...I won't say, "I'll do it tomorrow".

I guess all I needed was a sounding board who knew what I was talking about simply to feel normal, validate my stupidity, and move on. Thanks, Mike. It's not finished simply because I didn't give myself enough time tonight when I began, but a good portion of it has been started so I have a bit of momentum now.

It can definitely be hard and in fact I'm at that point now. I have some documentation I have to finish unfortunately. I could give you all kinds of advice and make suggestions which are logical to me...but it doesn't really matter when I'm not following my own advice!

That's more or less what I keep doing in my mind. ;-) Thanks for the feedback, Sara. I think I should be done by the end of this week - it'll be a huge load off. Then I get to start the next project already waiting patiently for me.

I wish I knew... none of my websites have back-ends/admin areas. I'm too lazy to work on that since there's no excitement working on something nobody else is going to see.
